10 Cannabis Strains to Try in Summer 2020

In the annals of summers past, weed partnered well with summer activities of all kinds, like outdoor concerts, music festivals, and barbeques. Summer 2020 is an entirely different can of worms, as we all try to figure out how to enjoy the season while still practicing social distancing and wearing face coverings.

Just like food is inspired by the seasons, so are cannabis strains. Light, fruity, and energizing strains are a good match for summer, whether you’re staying in, taking a hike, or getting together outside with friends. Here’s a look at some of the best strains for summer 2020.

Gorilla Glue Strain

This true hybrid has taken the medical industry by storm.

Formerly known as Gorilla Glue #4 (the makers of the popular adhesive Gorilla Glue asked for their name back and got it), GG #4 is a popular strain among consumers. Known for its high THC content, this indica-leaning hybrid has both sweet and sour tastes and a strong, skunk-like odor.

Sweet Tooth

An indica-dominant hybrid, this strain is both sweet and pungent, reminiscent of blueberries in taste and smell. Sweet Tooth has been described as energetic and focusing, so give it a try before doing creative work or other activities that need clear focus.

Agent Orange

If you want to beat the 2020 blues, Agent Orange is one to try. Uplifting and positive, this citrusy sativa comes on quick and stays energizing. Consumers say that the smell is a bright combination of lemons and oranges, while the flavor is akin to spiced holiday oranges.

Super Lemon Haze

Super lemon haze strain

A motivational, creative, mood-elevating experience, Super Lemon Haze also comes with an array of body effects.

This member of the Lemon Skunk/Super Silver Haze family has strong citrus elements – some say it smells like Lemonheads candy – with a flowery and spicy undertone. A sativa-leaning hybrid, Super Lemon Haze provides a buzzing, mood-elevating, and creative experience.

Jilly Bean

If you’re looking for an indica-dominant hybrid that is both sweet and spicy, Jilly Bean is your go-to. Starting out with a strong orange/grapefruit scent, a pungent, garlicky smell emerges post-grind. However, the citrusy scent carries over into the flavor, which some say tastes like Tang. Jilly Bean typically has a quick onset and gives an energetic high without veering into a racy or anxious state. Though it should be noted that some find Jilly Bean to be a “creeper,” the resulting high is just as pleasant either way.

Grapefruit is the perfect sativa-dominant hyrbid for relaxing outdoors.

When looking for a strain that lets you take it easy without going into couch lock, bet on Grapefruit. Possessing a sweet and tangy citrus scent, it provides a nice warm rush, low-key mind elevation, and a stretch-out-in-the-hammock kind of vibe.

This legendary strain out of Northern California’s Humboldt county is not for cannabis beginners. Trainwreck is a potent sativa with strong mental effects, featuring a lemon-lime, menthol, and acrid scent combination and a citrus dominant taste.

Skywalker OG

Skywalker OG strain

Skywalker OG is a clear, vibrant, relaxing OG.

Consumers love OG’s because of their clear, relaxing, and pleasant high, and Skywalker OG is no exception. Featuring a pungent yet earthy citrus scent and that tastes both floral and citrusy, this sativa-dominant hybrid will put you in a happy, elevated state accompanied by some light body effects.

Grape Ape

Believed to be a descendant of the legendary Grandaddy Purple line, Grape Ape is an indica-dominant hybrid known for its strong start and potent experience. With a sweet and musky scent that reminds consumers of grape Kool-Aid, it tastes much like it smells and gives a relaxing and uplifting experience.

Chemdog Haze

This mix of Chem Dog and Super Silver Haze is a sativa dominant hybrid known for its strong start and mood elevation. Chemdog Haze has the signature Haze-dominant aroma (a blend of acrid citrus and pine), with a bit Chem Dawg’s dankness thrown in for balance. Flavor notes are very similar to its smell, with a hint of eucalyptus that gives it a cooling effect.

Easing the Endless Summer

In a fun-house-gone-wrong kind of year, cannabis could be a balm to calm the nerves, ease anxiety, and spark a laugh. So whatever strain you try this summer, be sure to consume safely and mindfully (and don’t share joints or gear!).
