Six New Cannabis Stores in the Works for Oshawa While First Store Proposed for Bowmanville
Article by Reka Szekely, Oshawa This Week
A surge of cannabis retail store applications means there could be as many as six new cannabis stores in Oshawa.
Currently there is one store in the city, Tokyo Smoke located on Laval Drive. An application for a Friendly Stranger store at 204 Ritson Rd. N., in the Costco plaza, has been in the works for months and the application is still listed as “in progress” by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
There are five proposals for new cannabis retailers in progress with the AGCO: The Joint Venture Shoppe at 1 Warren Ave., Unit 104 in the Pizza Nova plaza between King Street and Bond Street; High Beamz at 20 Simcoe St. S.; The Peace Pipe at 31 Celina St.; Endless Greens at 650 King St. E. Unit 7 near the Beer Store in the east end of the city; and Happy Dayz at 19 Bond St. E.
Both The Peace Pipe and Happy Dayz are existing downtown stores that sell cannabis accessories. High Beamz would also be in the downtown just south of the four corners.
Sessions Cannabis announced on May 21 it would be expanding its brand into Oshawa and listed the Warren Avenue location linked to The Joint Venture Shoppe AGCO application as its new site.
The company currently has stores in Toronto and Collingwood with plans to open 30 new stores.
